Introducing MINT: A new tutoring progress tracker built for schools, parents, and tutors

When Bob and Anne Wang joined the ownership team of My Tutoring Partners (MTP) in November of 2024, they ran into an issue: the company’s data tracking.

Data was being tracked on three different data platforms with three very different processes, making it confusing and difficult to work with. Because of this, partner schools weren’t receiving tutoring data promptly. Bob and Anne felt strongly that parents and educators needed easy access to a student's tutoring progress tracker.

Bob took matters into his own hands to find a solution. After several months of hard work and collaboration, My Tutoring Partners introduced MINT. 

MINT is now My Tutoring Partners' proprietary data tracking software. It's purpose is to consolidate all data, show student progress, and get on the same page as school partners and parents. 

“MINT gives transparency and accountability across the board,” Bob said. 

Along with better data tracking, Anne said MINT strengthens the team effort behind every student’s success.

“It gives a greater sense of teamwork. We (educators, parents, and tutors) are a team that is working together to serve this student,” Anne said. 

What data does MINT track? 

MINT tracks progress data, allowing parents, educators, and students to see the linear academic growth that comes from tutoring with MTP.

After each session, tutors fill out a Tutor Session Report that answers the questions:

• “What did you and the student work on today?”

• “What did the student do well today?

• “Did you encounter any challenges during the session?”

It also asks the tutor to rate on a 5-star scale how the tutoring session went, the student's subject mastery, and the student’s engagement. 

Bob calls the data structured and non-structured data — the numbers and the narrative.

“We felt like before, we were getting all this data, but we were not leveraging it. So, we created MINT to share this information with the support network of the student,” Bob said. 

What else does MINT do?

Apart from being a tutoring progress tracker, MINT serves as a tool to align budgets and credits. Typically, parents prepay for a certain number of tutoring sessions through a purchase order. Bob said that having this purchase order viewable on a dashboard like MINT allows everyone to see and be aware of:

• How many sessions a student has left 

• How the past sessions were used

• Insight into the student’s performance 

• If sessions need to be renewed 

“This allows us to be more proactive so the student doesn’t have tutoring gaps because we’re waiting for a new purchase order to come through,” Bob said. 

MINT also sends out session reminders to parents, along with a calendar view to be aware of upcoming sessions.

MINT is customized to meet YOUR needs

What makes MINT different from other data dashboards? MINT was built by Bob for MTP, making it customizable and allowing for parents and educators to receive the metrics and data they care about. Many “off-the-shelf” data tracking platforms have a software that only provides one process with limited data, and the user has to change their process to fit the platform. MINT, however, tailors to the user’s needs. 

“We are truly living up to our name of ‘My Tutoring Partners.’ We want to partner with the parent and school to give them the data they need and want,” Bob said. 

“For each school, we can customize it to what they want to see. If there is something that’s not showing, and we collect the data, we can show it to them,” Anne said.
